Course Objective

the aim of this course is to teach students to define and classify text features of writing in rich areas of calligraphy art ; with formulas and spelling types in subjects and literally forms outlined in books

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To explain the types of book writing and their functions considering their location
2   To explain and exemplify writing features in zahriye page in Turkish art of calligraphy
3   To show and compare title/appellation/ preamble features in Turkish art of calligraphy
4   To show and compare writing type and text features in epilogue/ketebe pages in Turkish art of calligraphy
5   To apply writing styles, characteristics and text features used in books of Turkish art of calligraphy.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the terminology, history, features and literature related with the manuscripts and examples of writing- text area context of Turkish art of calligraphy will be introduced. The examples will be shown accompanied with visual presentations and the homework and presentation will be evaluated with making discussions during lectures.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The course has 2 credits for theoretical knowledge and 2 credits for applications. There will be both midterm and final exam to evaluate students and these will affect result by 30%. In the exams, the degree of comprehension and understanding of the subjects in given course books and also the degree of skills in applications will be evaluated. Homework and a presentation which are prepared with the systematic of the comprehended course will be expected from students. Students will benefit from published works, manuscript in museums or libraries; and their studies will be evaluated by 40%.

Assessment Criteria

In order to number of questions in the exams, the mark distributions out of 100 points will be announced before the exams and the total result will be evaluated. The homework will be evaluated regarding content of the subject and presentation criteria by 40%

The course begins with theoretical description, drawing with the help of visuals about related subjects. At the end of the classes, the subject of next class is announced to students as research subject.
