Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, we aim to instruct periodically prominent miniature styles with visual materials by pointing out the history of Ottoman Miniature Art theoretically. The instructor will guide the students to make up a visual source. The most important works in Ottoman Miniature Art will be introduced by source books, and the basic composition factors will be identified with the help of these samples. These composition factors will first be classified as human, animal figures and natural factors; and then they will be drawn on sketches by a pencil; the next step is to colour them. In all applications, the sketch stage should primarily be approved by the instructor. After all these applications, a file containing basic composition factors about Ottoman Miniature and the students original works will be prepared.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This course involves 2 theoretical course credits; and 2 practical course credits. The students are supposed to prepare a research source and will be observed how much they have reached the visual materials, and they will prepare an assignment about the history and the periods of Ottoman Miniature in the 5th week. The attendance is very important because the students can learn the application techniques by following the lesson as those techniques are introduced one on one. The students skills at using the brush and line technique will be evaluated after instructing the application techniques. After the studies done in the educational term, the students files including the basic composition factors of the Ottoman Miniature will be the main criteria for evaluation, so will their efforts and attendance.

Assessment Criteria

The project, assignment presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100.
