Course Objective

To have information about the reasoning/reasoning process on language in a range from Plato to Chomsky in order to understand the philosophical perspectives that are the basis of Linguistic Theories.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   gain general information about language philosophy
2   learn the language philosophy within the framework of logical paradigm
3   learn the language philosophy within the framework of Daily Language paradigm
4   learn the language philosophy within the framework of Wittgenstein II Grammar paradigm
5   acquire the ability to compare the classical understanding in language philosophy with the modern understanding.
6   acquire the ability to comment on the derivative and functional system of language.

Assessment Criteria

Learning outcomes 1- 6 will be evaluated through theory-oriented epistemological questions and possible answers on the evaluation of collective and individual readings.

Participation to the mid-term, homework and final will be taken into consideration in evaluation.
