Course Objective

The aim of the course; To recognize the historical geography and monuments of the 2nd Millennium BC Western and Central Anatolia in terms of main features.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Learning the Western and Central Anatolian chronology of the 2nd Millennium BC and to make a comparison with the surrounding cultural regions.
3   To be able to recognize the Western and Central Anatolian Historical Geography of the 2nd Millennium BC.
4   Learning the Western and Central Anatolian rock monuments of the 2nd Millennium BC.
5   To be able to compare the 2nd millennium BC rock monuments in Western and Central Anatolia with their contemporaries.

1 General introduction of the course, the skill format required from the students and explanation of bibliography.
2 The geography of Western and Central Anatolia.
3 The history of Western and Central Anatolia in the second millennium BC.
4 Western and Central Anatolia according to Hittite written sources.
5 Western Anatolian rock monuments, Akpınar.
6 Western Anatolian rock monuments, Karabel.
7 Western Anatolia rock monuments, Bafa Lake and its surroundings (Latmos/Suratkaya, Çine Tepecik).
8 Midterm
9 Apasas - Ephesos (Ayasuluk), Puranda-Bademgediği Tepe.
10 Central Anatolian rock monuments, Eflatunpınar and Fasıllar.
11 Central Anatolian rock monuments, Ivriz.
