Course Objective


Explaining the development process of contemporary Turkish painting and making comparison between Turkish painting and other countries.Introducing contemporary Turkish painters and examining their works, recognizing the groups in Turkish painting.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knowing the first attempts of westernization in Turkish painting.
2   Knowing what a fresco is and fresco's of Istanbul, Anatolia and Rumelia.
3   Knowing the common features of 19th century Turkish painters, military schools and painting course and painting in the civil schools.
4   Knowing the problematic of painters of Darüşşafaka, the meaning of the name of the Primitives, painting courses in military schools, the ideal of landscape, first samples of the Turkish style of landscape and first painters.
5   Knowing Mektebi Osmani and the artists educated in Paris, Sea Painters and the developments in art in Istanbul through 20th century.
6   Knowing the 1914 period, Galatasaray Exhibitions, Müstakil Painters Union, 1933 Group of D, the union of fine arts, the independences and national art.
7   Knowing the abstract tendencies in Turkish painting, the proliferation of abstracts, the attempts of understanding abstract and abstracting.
8   Knowing the geometric abstracters, lyric abstracters and geometric non-figuratives.
