Course Objective

The aim of this course is to inform students about basic principles and theories of translation and its organic connection with various fields of social sciences, humanities and arts by benefitting from semiotics. The course includes definitions of translation types, examples of intersemiotic translation, and its practice.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students can differentiate different types of translation.
2   . Students awareness on the relationship between semiotics and translation studies increases.
3   Students learn the importance of interpretation in translation and realises the difference of it from translation.
4   Students can identify basic principles and theories of intersemiotic translation.
5   Students can analyse intersemiotic translation practices at a professional level.

6 Book cover designing as an example for intersemiotic translation
7 Folklore items as examples for intersemiotic translation: folk songs, folk dances

9 Drama as an example to intersemiotic translation
10 Translation from fables to puppet theatre: Sevdalı Bulut is on the stage
11 Cinema as an example for intersemiotic translation
