Course Objective

The main purpose of this course is to focus on the role of the European Union in the global economic system, with particular reference to EU trade policies and regimes at both multilateral and bilateral contexts. New configurations of power in a globalized economic system; globalisation vs regionalisation, globalisation and immigration, globalisation and environment, the changing dynamics of EU s global activity after the Lisbon Treaty will be some of the main topics to be studied. The major opportunities and threats for the EU in the globalized system will be analysed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Have sufficient knowledge on the role of European Union in the socially, economically and culturally globalized system.
2   have sufficient knowledge on globalisation vs regionalisation concepts.
3   demonstrate sufficient knowledge on the consequences of global developments on trade, investment, environment and immigration.
4   demonstrate sufficient knowledge on the major points of dispute in the globalized economic system.

Assessment Criteria

1. The learner will be fully prepared to discuss reading assignments and cases.
2. The learner will clearly describe the concepts of assimilation, integration and acculturation.
3. The learner will demonstrate sufficient knowledge on migration in Europe.
4. The learner will present the analysis of selected countries, with particular reference to the relevant migration policies of these countries.

2. Attending at least 70 percent of lectures is mandatory.
3. All assignments should be submitted on time. Otherwise will not be accepted.
