Course Objective

Preliminary research for the location of waste storage, detailed geological and hydrogeological studies, geomembrane and clay cover system characteristics, performance analysis, and monitoring and the methods of calculation of amount of leachate will be given. 1 Description of waste, waste disposal and landfill storage methods
2 Legal regulations related to waste disposal and prohibited areas for waste storage activities
3 Preliminary geological studies; assessment of 1/25000 and 1/100000 scaled geological maps
4 Geological factors: rocks classification, rocks lithological properties, fault and crakes, mapping
5 Preliminary hydrogeological studies; assessment of 1/25000 and 1/100000 scaled hydrogeological maps
6 Hydrogeological factors:surface waters, groundwaters, aquifers and impermeable layers, parameters that effects the recharge from surface
7 Mid term exam
8 Basement rock properties: basement rocks, permeability, thickness, lithological and structural features of basement rocks
