Course Objective

Students would be able to simulate a real setting or a hypothetical designed environment via computer simulation software. The simulated environment could be freely explored in real time by potential users as if they are in a real setting. The students would explore how potential users perceive the simulated environments. Upon completion of the course students would understand the factors influencing people s environmental perception and environmental preference. Also upon completion of the course, the students would be encouraged to use computer simulation techniques not as a presentation technique solely, rather a design tool to improve the quality of design by understanding people s environmental perception.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Students would be able to identify the similarities and differences between real and computer simulated environments
2   Students would be able to identify the similarities and differences between a\real and cognitive maps
3   Students would be able to use a computer simulation software as a tool to design
4   Students would be able to design a computer simulated environment.
