Course Objective

This course aims at enabling the students gain an ability in developing designs at different scales through the integration of knowledge and ability gained in Basic Design course with form, structure, space and urban spatial issues and emphasising the importance of perception within the framework of issues such as spatial reading, interpreting and development of cognitive map.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   At the end of this course, students, will be able to repeat the knowledge and ability of technical drawing in their designs
2   will be able to define the issues of form, structure and space,
3   will be able to illustrate the ability of concrete and abstract thinking,
4   will be able to analyse the built environment
5   will be able to propose alternative solutions through the use of their ability of two and three dimensional perception.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Expression of the topic of ergonomics with measure-scale-ratio-proportion subjects. Applications and assignments in these subjects.
2 Explanation of perspective drawing techniques, one escape point perspective, two-point perspective. Applications and assignments on perspective drawing.
3 Transferring the project subject "Me and the Environment". Discussion of the project topic within the framework of proportion, proportion and ergonomics relations.
4 Determination of the project subject and the project area and discussion of the proposals, Expression of the structure.
5 First Intermediate Jury Week Evaluation of the works prepared in the form of an open jury
6 Transferring the second project subject, Expression of Solid and Void subject. Expression of Form and Space subject. Applications and assignments.
7 The second project on Behavior and Needs, preparation process.
8 Sketching and critical process of the second project
9 Sketching and critical process of the second project

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Distance education decision is taken for 2020-2021 Spring semester and
the course will be given in two days in 8 + 4 hours instead of three half days as before. PLN 1112 Space and Design course content prepared in terms of these significant changes.
PLN 1112 Space and Design course will be executed as follows in 2020-2021 Spring Semester.
The methods are as follows:
1. Method for Research and Execution
*A technical fiction change has been made in terms of the way the lesson is taught, the tools and the results expected from the student and the presentation of the products.
* The curriculum includes a content that blends classical learning methods with digital possibilities.
* The method of conducting the lesson and the course schedule has been prepared according to its 4 hours theoretical and 8 hours practical content.
* The course will be executed on the days and times specified in the course schedule as synchronized with the Sakai program

* Accordingly,
The lecturers conducting the course on Monday and Thursday, transferring their lecture presentations. It is planned to create an interaction environment in the form of criticism, mutual discussion, asking questions and developing ideas. In these parts of the lesson, lectures and projects included in the weekly program, will be transferred using the visual presentations, videos, animations etc.
In the classroom practices, exercises or homework assignments that follow each other and constantly evolve are designed for the subjects given for the students.
Exercises / assignments, drawing assignments that allow students to develop hand-mind coordination, and project applications will be made that evolve from simple to complex as a methodological study that supports the development of the creative process.

The topics included in the Space and Design course will be covered in the term setup consisting of 3 main parts. These 3 main sections:
Me and Environment
Behavior and Requirements and
Transformation in Space
It consists of project studies fictionalized under the headings. In each main section, lectures and practices that are preparatory to the project work will be made.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

This course is evaluated with the semester grade. There is no final exam.

Assessment Criteria

Repeating, Defining and Illustrating will be measured by the evaluation of Homework Assignments and Midterm Examinations.
Analysing and Proposing will be measured by Final Examination.

Course Policies and Rules

The course will be executed, as conference presentations related to the lecture theoretical framework, classroom practices and sub-projects.
* The course will be held in a single branch. Lectures and discussion lectures will be conducted with the participation of the whole class.
* However, in terms of time management, students will be divided into subgroups and followed up in project critiques.
* In order to ensure the contact of the students with all the executive instructors, the groups in question will be subjected to a rotation.
