Offered By

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Level of Course Unit

First Cycle Programmes (Bachelor's Degree)

Course Coordinator

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR BAHADIR UYULGAN

Offered to

Metallurgical and Materials Engineering

Course Objective

Help students to develop a security awarness for welding. Introduce the weld-related terminology and present tools and instruments for welding and cutting. Introduce types of welding techniques including to describe welding conditions and the likely problems encountered during welding. Evaluate the termal input at and around weld seem. Changes in internal structures around weld seem, introduce weld defects and take the necessary measures to prevent them from happening.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand physical, chemical and metallurgical principles of various welding processes.
2   Understand the places of implementation and environments for various welding processes.
3   Describe the weldability of metals and alloys and interpret their welding environment.
4   Understand and interpret the microstructure and texture occuring at and around weld seem for similar and dissimilar single and multiphasic alloys.
5   Understand heat cycle, residual stresses and deformation at and around the weld.
6   Discuss and argue the cause of weld defects and understand how these defects can be detected by the destructive and non-distructive methods.
7   Understand the metallurgical changes during solidification of weld metal depending on heat input and cooling regimes.
8   Understand the importance of post and preoperative processes required for a sound and better bonding.
