Course Objective

To live in healthy environment is one of the rights of human being. In addition to this, the sources of earth are not endless, though is renewable. the problems of environment have reached to its peak so that it will threaten not only nature but also human life in te process of over half a century. From other religions point of view this world is sacred and also Islam sees this world as a place which was given to human being by God. This reveals that from the point of view of Islam, protecting environment has a religious dimension. Among the aims of this lecture is to know the decisions, handled in international conferences in which a lot of protection tecniques were argued dating from 1970's to todays in order to protect environment disasters, with these conferences' social and cultural and ethical dimesions. Also among other aims of this course is to gain knowledge to the students about the ability of producing knowledge for devoloping social politics to pay attention to cultural, religious values of societies and to make these values practical on the area of education and gaining them outlook about problems of environment which are discussed from the point of view of religion, theology.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To know the concept of ecological balance, to grasp environmental problems and their relation with cultural and religious values.
2   The student will learn pessimist and optimistic previsions about the results of chances which may occur in the natural and social environment searching the importance of protecting environment. And the student will make relations between these previsions wit religions' doomsday tenets
3   The student will evaluate aids of living reigions' tenets concerning with human and nature to the development of consciousness for environment protection
4   The student will distinguish cultural, religious and ethical attitudes which will affect social and natural environment negatively.
5   The student will understand the need of inclusion of cultural and religious values into education processes to gain consciousness of environmental protection in the respective manner of protecting natural environment

4 Asian Religions: Hindu, Buddhist, Jainist understandings of environment
5 Asian Religions 2: Confucianism, Shintoism, environment
6 Old Testament, Judaims and environment
7 Worth of nature and environment in the tenets of Christianity
8 Midterm exam
9 The worth of nature and environment in the tenets of Islam
10 The rights of environment in terms of Islamic Jurisprudence
11 Practises of protecting environment in the history of Islam
12 Ethical dimension of protecting environment
13 The place of Religious education in the development of environmental consciousness
14 General approaches to the relation between environment and Religion
15 Final exam
