Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach mathematics student teachers the features of instructional materials, their place in teaching process, their importance and use, to provide opportunities to develop and evaluate materials.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Explain the basic concepts related to instructional technologies.
2   Recognize the place and importance of tools and materials in education.
3   Know design and development principles of materials to be used in mathematics teaching.
4   Learn the teaching materials that are recommended to be used in mathematics teaching curriculum and use them in class.
5   Adapt, evaluate and develop instructional materials to the course.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Sharing the content of the lesson, introducing the course sources, expressing the expectations about the course
2 The relationship between instructional technologies and communication, the place and importance of equipments in teaching, elements that should be considered in selecting equipments and factors influence this process
3 Instructional materials included in mathematics curriculum
4 Drawings done by compass, ruler, protractor, miter and plotter and the place of these equipments in mathematics education
5 Design and development principles of materials to be used in mathematics teaching
6 Two-dimensional teaching materials
7 Presentations of two-dimensional instructional materials prepared by student teachers
8 Course overview, evaluation and midterm examination
9 Preparing posters, purposes for their use, advantages and disadvantages of posters, softwares regarding to prepare posters
10 Three dimensional teaching materials
11 Presentations of three-dimensional instructional materials designed by student teachers
12 Using videos in teaching mathematics, preparing videos and softwares regarding to prepare videos
13 Presenting and discussing the mathematics lessons that designed by student teachers using different materials for a mathematical topic
14 Presenting and discussing the mathematics lessons that designed by student teachers using different materials for a mathematical topic
15 Final exam
