Course Objective

The purpose of the course is to introduce language awareness, to give information about acquisition of mother tongue and stages of language acquisition, the differences between mother tongue and foreign language, to understand the importance of learning the second language at an early age, to teach stages of language acquisition.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To see the differences between mother tongue, second language and foreign language
2   Students evaluate stages of mother tongue acquisition.
3   They question the relationship between language and brain.
4   They know the functions of brain sections related to language such as Wernick and Broka areas, Rolando cleft, right hemisphere and left hemisphere.
5   They know the functions between mother tongue acquisition and foreign language learning.
6   They know to use some features of mother tongue acquisition in the process of foreign language learning.
