General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Department of Total Quality Management was established in 2000. From the academic year of 2012-2013 Industrial Quality Management- Non-Thesis Masters Program was opened as a program of interdisciplinary graduate program. This program aims to contribute to the training of specialized personnel which can act important role in establishment and execution of quality management system and/or laboratory management system and quality planning, control and improvement activities in manufacturing industry sectors (automotive, food, etc.). Education language of the program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

In Dokuz Eylul University, Graduate School of Social Sciences, Department of Total Quality Management, Industrial Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program has 11 faculty members from different disciplines and three research assistants. There are 40 computers (Lab) for the use of students and teaching and these computers can be used everyday during the week from 8.30 to 17.00. To support our students to work on their thesis or projects; library, computer lab and wireless network connection is available. Turkish is the language for the courses which offered at the program.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Having knowledge of quality, quality management systems and quality/productivity improvement concepts and knowledge of methods which are necessary to implement these concepts.
2   Having knowledge of building quality management systems including specific quality management systems in production and measurement service organizations.
3   Being able to interiorize philosophy of quality and having fundamental knowledge and motivation to of continuously improve business processes.
4   Having knowledge of using management, engineering and statistical disciplines synchronized and interactive in quality management.
5   Having knowledge of using management, engineering and statistical disciplines synchronized and interactive in product/process design, production and laboratory management related processes.
6   Being able to think analytical and be systematic in quality-related events.
7   Being able to increase performance of business processes efficiently by using necessary administrative and statistical techniques and problem-solving approaches.
8   Being able to inform team members on issues related to quality management.
9   Being able to inform management about relationships between costs of quality studies (total quality costs) and the types of quality costs.
10   Being able to manage team members who take part in the projects related to quality management and quality improvement.
11   Being able to monitor quality literature and developments in the world and potential of contributing them.
12   Being able to take responsibility as a team manager or team member by analysing and discussing the strategic planning, performance management, quality management and improvements to support the theoretical knowledge about the quality.
13   Being able to explain the effects and the roles of quality studies (total quality costs) in the production costs by applying appropriate quality cost model.
14   Having fundamental knowledge of establishment and operation of the quality cost systems which are important in the measurement of the success of quality management systems and using the reults of the data analysis in management decisions.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates who completed the Industrial Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program can be employed in the quality departments of manufacturing enterprises and can be executed through the following tasks:
- Work as a management representative or responsible for the quality management system in the establishment and the administration of the quality management systems in industrial organizations.
- Perform internal audits of the quality management system.
- Work in quality control activities.
- Work in the quality planning and improvement activities implemented during the design and development of product and manufacturing process.
- Work efficiently as a team member in the improvement teams and as a manager in the projects which solves quality related problems.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In Industrial Quality Management Non-Thesis Masters Program all courses are compulsory and students who successfully complete courses in the three semester, required to execute a project and succeeded in the last semester. There are no prerequisite required for taking the courses. In program courses which is formed of theoretical lectures formed it is important to take advantage of other disciplines which take the basis of Industrial Quality Management Program and be able to have advanced knowledge of these disciplines and be able to analyze the concepts and ideas in the field of Industrial Quality Management by the scientific methods, interpret and evaluate data, be able to apply the innovations and innovative work principles in the field.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 86 ECTS), Term Project (4 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
