General Description

History

Economics is a subject that explores the process through which economic units make decisions with respect to allocation of scarce resources. The content of the economics discipline covers wide variety of issues related to public policies such as markets, government, institutions, growth, development, inflation and unemployment.
Master s Program in Economics (English) merges fields of specialization such as microeconomics, macroeconomics, econometrics and those that intercept with these; economic theory, international economics, economic policy. The properties of the program in terms of its academic plan are as follows: The compulsory subjects involve core micro and macroeconomics, econometrics and mathematical economics. Within the program, students can choose between electives from a variety of fields. The electives cover a vast area of different fields of economics and are designed in order to develop the analytical thinking of students, supported with up-to-date topics and applications.
In order to realize its goals, the program aims to
a) Equip students with the required knowledge of economic theory,
b) Make sure that students are able to use this knowledge in their own studies,
c) Improve students abilities to analyze and interpret the economy,
d) Equip students with theoretical and analytical abilities for advanced academic studies in the field of economics.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle (Bachelor's Degree) diploma; a minimum score of 55 from the Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related field or GRE/GMAT equivalent; a minimum score of 50 from the Foreign Language Exams (UDS/KPDS/YDS) or TOEFL IBT/PEARSON PTE/Goethe-Zertifikat/TestDaF/DELF&DALF equivalent or a minimum score of 55 from DEU School of Foreign Languages English Proficiency Test. Transcript; a minimum score of 65 from the graduate school academic proficiency exam.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Business Department of Economics (English), Economics in English Master s Program comprises 12 instructors and 6 research assistants. Within the body of the faculty there are 4 seminar halls, 2 intelligent/technological classrooms, 21 classrooms, 3 computer laboratories and a conference hall which are endowed with necessary equipment. There are 85 computers in the computer laboratories, lounge and library within the body of the faculty, available to student access between the hours 08.30 22.00 in business days. The language of education of the program is English.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Graduates of Economics in English Master s Degree are employed in academic duties, in a wide range of positions in both the private and public sectors. Our graduates can acquire positions in different fields of the private sector, such as banking, consulting firms, audit companies and many of them are employed in important foreign enterprises. In public sector, our graduates can be employed at banks, the Central Bank, or any public institution that can be applied with the Public Personnel Exam (KPSS).

In Economics in English Master?s Program, students are obliged to take 8 compulsory and 4 elective courses. Students are under obligation to take 3 compulsory and 1 elective courses in the first semester and 4 compulsory and 2 elective courses in the second semester. There are no prerequisites for any of the courses in the program. The term of each course is one semester.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (3 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
