General Description

History

The department of Curriculum and Instruction has offered Master of Science Degree (no thesis) since 1999, and has offered the MS degree to 4 students at present.Our department has not offered any staff and student exchange programs with universities and institutions under the framework of ERASMUS, yet.

Specific Admission Requirements

To enter Psychological Counseling and Guidance program Non Thesis Masters Degree the students must be graduated from a department of educational faculties or they must be working in an institute of education as a teacher, administrator, inspector, specialized professional.First Cycle (Bachelors Degree) diploma, minimum score of 60 from the nationwide Academic Graduate Education Entrance Examination (ALES) in the related fields, acceptable minimum score of 50 from Foreign Language (German, English, French) Exams (UDS/KPDS) or the equivalent exams scores obtained from TOEFL/IELTS/etc. or being successful at the foreign language examination of the Institute (minimum score of 70). In addition the candidate has to present his transcript. Evaluation Grades: % 50 of their ALES grades, % 50 of their cumulative grade point average (CGPA). The candidates are placed in their preferred programs in an orderly manner upon their evaluation grades. Students from the highest scores to the lower scores as much as the allocated number will be allowed to register in the program upon consideration of their preferences. Additionally, the same number of students are announced in case not all students who are entitled to attend the programme will not enroll. Students must register to the programme between the announced dates. If there are empty spots students from the additional list are called.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) NonThesis Program consists of at least 10 courses, not being less than 30 national credits, noncredit semester project, in total 90 ECTS credits. The student must have at least 2.50 out of 4.00 (cumulative grade point average 2.50/4.00). The student who successfully passes courses in the graduate program enters an examination for the project assigned to him. If he is unsuccessful in this exam he must enter this exam again with the same jury in three months. The successful student gets his Second Cycle (Masters Degree) NonThesis Program diploma. Profile of the Programme

The program is designed to promote personal and professional growth for both education and computer education fields. The language of instruction is Turkish.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To provide the candidates with a focused knowledge of curriculum and instruction; and a general knowledge of curriculum and instruction as well as a detailed knowledge in his or her area of research.
2   To familiarize the students with the research literature of educational sciences and to support their ability to keep abreast of developments.
3   To train the candidates to demonstrate skills in the recognition of meaningful problems, cases, and questions for research in curriculum and instruction.
4   To create proficiency in planning of research, analyzing and evaluating experimental data, application of appropriate statistical methods and to report the results in the scientific format.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

The graduates of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction may work in public and private schools run by the Ministry of National Education and may work in training unit of workplaces as curriculum and instruction specialist.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates who successfully completed the Masters Degree may apply to doctorate (third cycle) programmes in the same or in related disciplines.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Students must attend classes, practices and examinations. In order for students to qualify for midterms they should attend 70% of the theoretical classes and 80% of the application/lab classes. Students attendance is followed by their Instructor. For almost all required and elective courses there are two written examinations: One midterm examination (given during each semester and dates of which are announced by the Department in the first month of the semester) and one final exam. The instructor announces the weekly course content, the course book and how students will be evaluated and the dates of the exams to the students and the Institute at the beginning of the semester. The instructor evaluated the students depending on their midterm and final grades, attendance to the class, their additional work such as projects, presentations and assignments which were presented at the beginning of the semester.
A make up exam is offered for graduate classes. Upon the approval of the Institute Board students can take the exam from the lessons that they have already passed in order to increase their GPA.
