General Description

History

Dokuz Eylül University Graduate School of Social Sciences Maritime Business Administration Department was established in 1993. Under the roof of this Department, Logistics and Maritime Transportation Masters Program started education in 2001. The program aims to educate, improve and expertise its students who will work in the logistics sector, teach them the philosophy of science. The graduates of the program will be able to carry out scientific researches and can be employed as middle or top level managers in logistics organizations both in public and private sector. The medium of instruction of the Program is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Profile of the Programme

The overall aim of the Logistics and Maritime Transport Non-Thesis Master's program is to provide the logistics and maritime transport industry with prospective managers equipped with the knowledge, skills and competencies required by the industry at the specialized levels, well aware of the relevant ethical values and capable of having efficient access to, evaluate and interpret the newly emerged knowledge related to the logistics and maritime transport industry.

Individuals who complete the program will realize logistics, supply chain and maritime transportation solutions, taking into account the priorities in efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety, security and environment in the international, national and societal context. Iin the fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transportation,they can take an active role in projects in the public or private sector within the scope of national and international arena.

Education and scientific research activities of the program are carried out in equipped classrooms, and Port operations, Logistics, Computer and Management Simulation labs. Students and academics have access to both wireless and ethernet line, internet connections and a library. The medium of instruction of the program is Turkish.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Develops strategies, policies and feasible plans in both the main and side fields of logistics, supply chain as well maritime transport; implements them; and assesses, through quality processes, the results gained.
2   When needed, through assessing the overall situation the industry is in and the bottlenecks it suffers; forms effective strategies to overcome such difficulties and designs them as a report.
3   Solves the problems encountered in the field of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport, making use of contemporary business management techniques.
4   Fulfils the requirements of the vocational standards and safety rules related to the main and side fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport.
5   Designs and applies analytical, modelling and experimental researches; solves and interpretes the complicated situation related to logistics, supply chain and maritime transport.
6   In the national and international forums, through systematic approaches, in written or oral means, presents the processes, improvements and results of his/her researches in logistics, supply chain and maritime transport.
7   Reaches solutions in logistics, supply chain and maritime transport, considering the priorities in efficiency, effectiveness, quality, safety, security and ecology which could concern the logistic companies, maritime businesses, customers, users and stockholders in the triple scope of international, national and societal outlook.
8   Leads multidisciplinary teams; develops (creates) overcoming approaches with a sense of responsibility against complicated situations involved in the field of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport.
9   Collects and interprets data related to the main and side fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport; supervises/controls them at the stage of implementation taking into consideration social, scientific, vocational, cultural and ethical values; and acts as a leader in the efforts to protect such values.
10   Applies the research methods, used in social studies, to the fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport; develops new knowledge through information processing competencies and utilizes lifelong learning facilities to enhance his/her own capabilities.
11   Actively gets involved in international and national projects involving public or private sectors in logistics, supply chain and maritime transport.
12   Makes use of information processing competencies and creates new knowledge in logistics, supply chain and maritime transport; develops talents in implementing-controlling-acting on and assessing the new knowledge.
13   Interrelating with the business related solutions, makes use of the theoretical and applied knowledge related to the fields of logistics, supply chain and maritime transport, economics, law and any other related disciplines.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates may apply to the related employment positions in their area of specialization.
Students who graduate from this program cannot apply to study in doctoral programs.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

Courses in the program are given in two semesters. The courses in the program provide knowledge, skills and competencies to have information in the field of logistics and maritime transport, to examine the concepts and ideas related to this field with scientific methods, to interpret and evaluate data, and to follow the innovations in the field. There are compulsory and elective courses in the program. Elective courses are offered in both Fall and Spring semesters. Students must take elective courses as well as compulsory courses. Students must take 30 ECTS courses in a semester (including elective courses and term project).

Evaluation and assessment methods for each course is defined in the the Course Description Form which is prepared by related faculty member(s) and included in the information package. Exams and course success notes is subject to the relevant articles of the DEU Regulation on Graduate Education.

Graduation Requirements

Logistics and Maritime Transport Non-Thesis program consists of 60 ECTS in total, including related courses (55 ECTS) and Term Project (5 ECTS). Students must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50/4.00 and pass all courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
