General Description

History

The objective of the Master of Sciences Non-Thesis (MSc) program in Tourism Management in Dokuz Eylül University is to educate individuals: who is able to understand, examine and evaluate current issues in holistic view using both micro and macro approaches in tourism sector on a global scale; who can conduct research in tourism field by attending to ethical principles and inform the results to stakeholders verbally and in writing; who is able to run and manage a business from the beginning; who is successful in human relations; who can apply theoretical knowledge into practice; who excel structure and functioning of tourism sector with all dimensions. Courses in the program are given in Turkish. Tourism Management Non-Thesis Master's Program is designed to provide intensive information on accommodation management and management, destination marketing and management, tourism economy, tourism policy and planning, financial management in tourism businesses, travel management and management. In addition, our students are offered courses that will provide additional information in areas such as meeting tourism and congress management, current problems and applications in tourism, electronic tourism and information systems in tourism.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

1,5 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 90 ECTS in total.

Dokuz Eylul University, Institute of Social Sciences, Department of Tourism Management has 5 lecturers, 3 lecturers and 3 research assistants in Tourism Management. non-thesis master's program. The language of the courses offered in the program is Turkish.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   To be able to understand, analyze and examine dynamics of tourism sector and functioning of businesses in holistic view using both micro and macro approaches; and to make decisions for solutions related to problems encountered.
2   To be able to understand, interpret, discuss current issues in tourism sector; and to provide scientific recommendations on a global scale
3   To be able to examine tourism sector by acquiring fundamental economics concepts; to analyze functioning and structure of tourism markets in national and international scale; and to synthesize by evaluating economic analysis in terms of societies and institutions
4   To be able to inform stakeholders in tourism sector; and explain ideas and proposals supported by quantitative and qualitative data verbally and in writing to experts and non-experts
5   To be able to acquire knowledge in the fields of management, finance and marketing related to tourism sectors; and to excel in application of this knowledge on a project basis
6   To be able to collect data using information and communication technologies on a specific topic related to tourism sector; to analyze the data using necessary fundamental statistical knowledge; and to discuss, examine, report, and present results
7   To be able to acquire knowledge and share; to apply research methods; to live by ethical principles in report writing and presenting; and to reflect them to their scientific approaches by respecting different beliefs and opinions
8   To be able to understand the problems in tourism field studied; and to understand, examine, and discuss current issues in the field by using knowledge acquired in both academic and professional and/or personal development
9   To be able to demonstrate theoretical knowledge required to start, run and manage a business or an event; and to apply this knowledge into projects and take an initiative
10   To be able to understand individual, group and social relationships and tourist behavior which lay the groundwork of tourism sector and understand cultural differences

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Non-Thesis Program is comprised of courses (at least 86 ECTS), Term Project (4 ECTS), in total 90 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/S/TP grades.
