General Description

History

The German Language Teacher Education Department started its education for the first time under the roof of the Institute of Educational Sciences in the 2025-2026 academic year.

Qualification Awarded

When the program is successfully completed and the program qualifications are met, a Master's degree in German Language Education (German Teaching) is awarded.

Specific Admission Requirements

For applications to master's programs;
-Having a Bachelor's Degree or being in the last year/semester of undergraduate education,
-Having received at least 55 points from the Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) conducted by ÖSYM in the score type of the program applied for,
-In programs with education in a foreign language, it is mandatory to receive at least 75 points from central foreign language exams accepted by YÖK or an equivalent score from international foreign language exams accepted as equivalent, provided that the foreign language requirement is in the language of the program.

If the language of education of the program is the candidate's native language, it must be in a second foreign language.

Interview Score; will consist of 60% of the written evaluation score and 40% of the oral evaluation score.
Interview Score = 60% Written Evaluation Score + 40% Oral Evaluation Score
Candidates with an Interview Score of 65 and above are considered successful. An Evaluation Score consisting of ALES Score, Graduation Score and Interview Score will be calculated for these candidates.
Evaluation Score = 50% ALES + 25% Graduation Grade + 25% Interview Score
Candidates are placed in the programs they apply to by specifying their priority and ranked according to their Evaluation Scores. As a result of the ranking, candidates with the highest score gain the right to register for the program they applied to (taking into account their priority preference). The same number of reserve candidates are announced. Candidates who gain the right to register must register between the specified dates. Reserve candidates are given the right to register for the remaining quotas.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Successful students who have completed at least one semester in the graduate program of another institute within the university or another higher education institution may apply for a transfer in the announced dates if the quota is determined by the Board of Directors. The conditions for admission of the transfer are determined by the institute board.

Exemption requests of students for the courses taken at graduate program of another department/university with a successful grade are evaluated by the Administrative Board of the Institute by the recommendation of the head of the departments according to the provisions of Dokuz Eylül University Exemption and Adaptation Directives.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

The program consists of a minimum of seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, but not less than 21 local credits. The program contains compulsory and elective courses. The student workload for a semester is 30 ECTS, the total workload required to complete the master's program with thesis is 120 ECTS.

In addition to midterm and final exams, learning activities such as reports, assignments, quizzes, seminar presentations and project studies can be used in the performance evaluation of the student during the semester. In order for the student to be successful in this course, this grade must be at least 75 out of 100 (at least 2.50 out of 4.00). Seminar, thesis work and specialization courses are evaluated as successful / unsuccessful.

The training program has been prepared to contribute to personal and professional development in education and German language teaching. The language of the program is German.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

They have the opportunity to work as qualified expert teachers in public and private schools affiliated with the Ministry of National Education, in institutions related to public relations in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture, in the media, in the private sector related to industry and trade, and as research academics in university units related to their field.

Access to Further Studies

Candidates who successfully complete their master's degree can study in postgraduate doctoral programs provided that they receive a passing score from the ALES exam and have sufficient foreign language knowledge (YDS / Yökdil / ÜDS / KPDS).

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

In order for students to take the final exams, they must have attended 70% of the theoretical courses and 80% of the practical/laboratory classes.

At least one midterm exam is held for a course in each semester. How the midterm exam, midterm studies and final exams will be reflected in the success grade of that course, the content of the course on a weekly basis for the entire semester, the textbook and related literature, the midterm exam and practice dates are notified to the Institute Directorate and students by the faculty member teaching the course at the beginning of the semester. The final grade to be given to the student is determined by the faculty member according to the principles in the course introduction information provided to the students and the institute at the beginning of the semester, taking into account the evaluation of the midterm exams, final exam and/or final project work, as well as the term studies and course attendance.
A make-up exam is held for postgraduate courses. Students may also repeat the courses they have passed in order to increase their general grade point averages with the decision of the Institute Board of Directors.
In order to be considered successful in a course, students studying for a master's degree, doctorate or art proficiency must receive at least a (CB) grade as a final grade in that course.

Graduation Requirements

The program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course and a thesis study, with a total of not less than 21 local credits. The master's program consists of compulsory and elective courses. The total ECTS credit of the program is 120. Graduation requirements are as detailed in the Qualification Conditions and Rules section.
