General Description

History

Dokuz Eylul University institute of social sciences, the department of information management was founded in 2011. Strategic Researches master s program which is still in department carries education out as an interdisciplinary program. The language of education of the program in which intending to provide the need of the labour that are trained academically in Strategic Researches and aiming to start a career in this area is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 16 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

There are 24 lecturers and 1 research assistant from different disciplines in Dokuz Eylul University institute of social sciences, the department of information management strategic researches program. There are 40 pc (laboratory) to be used by students and in lessons and they are available to use between 8:30 and 17:00.There is thesis library, computer lab. And also wireless internet connection to be used by our students to support their Projects and thesis. The language of the courses which is offered in the program is Turkish.

1   To get information about basic theories, concepts and debates on strategy, politics and international relations
2   To reveal national and international political issues by managing advanced research, writing and analytical abilities, to develop approaches for the problems in the agenda
3   To produce knowledge and analysis on different areas such as social, cultural, military, and technology; and share these outcomes with related institutions if necessary
4   To get strategic thinking ability by acquiring strategy and security theories in areas ranging from political, social, cultural, geopolitical to international relation and so on.
5   To select appropriate theoretical and methodological instruments, to adopt those instruments comprehensively to the strategic studies
6   To produce thoughts and provide political alternatives to the government and public in different areas of internal and external politics
7   To educate strategists, analysts, political thinkers, external political experts or political researcher
8   Ability to make an independent research in a multidisciplinary approach
9   Ability to write academic articles and present papers

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Our students who graduate from post graduate programs can find jobs in strategic research centers / institutes. They can also work in the related departments of public institutions and firms. Moreover, they can work as research assistant, lecturers and academic in university departments.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

The Master's program Strategic Researches has 120 ECTS and the duration is four semesters. The program consists of compulsory courses, elective courses, and a thesis. Pre-condition is not required in taking lessons. In the lessons of the program which are theory and practice lessons, utilizing the other disciplines which are the roots of Strategic Researches and having high degree of knowledge about these disciplines, examining the concepts and ideas related to Strategic Researches with scientific methods, interpreting and evaluating dates and putting into practice these innovations and innovative study principles related with the branch are important.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Program with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 53 ECTS), a seminar (3 ECTS) and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS), in total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB/ S / TP grades.
