General Description

History

The Art and Design Department was established in the 2012-2013 academic year with the support of six departments that are currently continuing their education activities in order to reflect the projection of art and design of Dokuz Eylül University in the light of demands from the world of art and design. The courses have been created and programmed by the faculty members of the Painting, Sculpture, Graphic, Textile, Traditional Turkish Arts and Photography departments in a way that can appeal to all candidates in the art and design student resource. The ultimate goal of the main art branch and the faculty members who teach in the main art branch is to equip the students with the vision of art and design and to reflect the synergy that will arise from the interdisciplinary interaction to the works they will produce and the literature they will create.

Specific Admission Requirements

First Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines, Transcript, Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first cycle cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. The exceptions to the requirements of ALES and Foreign Language Proficiency scores is announced by the Graduate School. However, ALES requirement is waived for the admissions to the second cycle graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test as well as for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Transfer Students:
The transfer student candidates from Turkish or foreign universities are subject to the YOK Legislation "The transfer, double degree, minor degree and inter-institutional credit transfer" and to the evaluation conditions determined by Dokuz Eylul University Senate.
The transfer quotas are determined and announced by Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK). The evaluation of the candidates are done by the school evaluation commmisin and approved by the management

The Graduate Transfers:
The short cycle graduates are given the right to be admitted to the first cycle programs if they comply with the conditions set by the "The transfer of Short Cycle Program Graduates to First Cycle Programs" Legilation of Turkish Higher Education Council (YOK)
The universities inform YOK regarding the quotas and YOK announces the quotas and conditions in "Graduate Transfer Guide" and the placements are managed by YOK due to the results of nationwide graduate transfer exam.

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be
recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing
Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

2 years, 2 semesters per year, 15 weeks per semester, 120 ECTS in total.

Profile of the Programme

The basic objective of the program is to understand, to synthesize the different disciplines of art and design and to transfer the knowledge of art and design culture to candidates who wish to enhance and advance themselves. The program aims to educate the artists and designers who can follow the latest developments and do in-depth research in his/her study field. Also, preparing available stages to students to examine and discuss the emerging trends, events and concepts of the period and making the students create restructured projects through the theories researched are among the other objectives of the program as well.

9   Student will have the ability to interpret the common understandings, events and demands of the art and design environment with critical attitude.
10   Student will have the competence to represent visual and written sources, professional terminology and concepts in his/her field of study.
11   Student will have the competence to present the knowledge acquired in his/her field of study.
12   Student will have the competence to be able to plan and manage the applied works.
13   Student will have the competence to be able to solve the problems encountered and bring new approaches in the creation process of a work of art and design.
14   Student will have the competence to transfer to others and use the theories of art and design he or she has acquired in his/her field of study.

This degree enables the holder to perform the tasks related to quality management, design and certification in organizations.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Courses can be completed with assessment methods such as art and/or design work and/or project and performance studies, in addition to methods such as written exam and report presentation, as required by postgraduate education in the field of art education. Exams, assessments and evaluations and their grading may differ for each course. Detailed information on this subject can be found in the lessons section of the curriculum.
The program consists of at least seven courses, a seminar course, a specialization course and a thesis, with a total of not less than 21 local credits. The graduate education program consists of compulsory courses and elective courses, if any. The total ECTS credits of the program is 120.

Graduation Requirements

Second Cycle (Master's Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of at least 7 courses, not being less than 21 national credits, a
seminar and specialization courses and thesis studies, in total 120 ECTS credits.
