Course Objective

This course, which tries to identify the city as a field of observation, aims at applications that add the layers formed by social and political influences to a visual unity by comprehending the city as a plastic phenomenon. It aims to reproduce visual meanings through characterizing the privilege and dynamics of the city in the context of contemporary art theories and philosophy.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   City is a plastic unity. It can be analyzed from a visual perspective. The students will comprehend this process as a problem of consciousness and awareness.
2   The approach of analyzing urban plastics through indicators will be embraced as a visual cultur phenomenon.
3   It will be seen that it's possible to analyze the approaches to sort out and criticize urban phenomena with regard to its visuality, in the context of a systematic logic with the help of connected processes.
4   It will be comprehended that the historical, cultural and political data related to the development of societies and art have the power to reflect on and transform the city.
5   It will be seen that more aesthetic contexts are possible by the use of qualitative relationships developed with the relationship between art, artist and viewer.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Verbal and written practices of production of meaning, by the help of visual presentations and based on discussion sessions, will be utilized as the method of teaching.
