: Medical Physics

General Description

History

Medical Physics Department was established at the Institute of Health Sciences as an interdisciplinary department in 2006. The department faculty consists of the members from the Departments of Radiation Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiology from The Medicine Faculty and also from the Physics Department of Science Faculty.
The length of the program is minimum 4 semesters including 2 semesters for lectures and 2 semesters for the thesis preparation. The program language is Turkish.

Specific Admission Requirements

Bachelor of Science in Physics Engineering, Physics Engineering and Nuclear Physics and Nuclear Energy Engineering, Biomedical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering undergraduate degrees can apply.
Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score shoul be 60. In the same time Foreign Language Proficiency scores sholud be 60 (YÖKDİL, KPDS etc.).

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. İn total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

The Medical Physics Department was established in 2006. The students are aimed to be qualifed to use and improve the diagnostic and treatment related devices, and to be gained ability to quality control, quality assurance, to have knowledge of radiation dosimetry, radiation protection, and to do research on various fields of medical physics. Graduates becomes Medical Physics specialist.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Knows the principles of the working of diagnostic and therapeutic equipments and uses them.
2   Makes specification and acceptance testing, quality assurance and calibration of imaging equipments
3   Makes specification and acceptance testing, quality assurance and calibration of equipments using in radiation oncology
4   Makes radiation dose measurement and calculation
5   Makes radiotherapy planning manually and computer aided
6   Designs, makes and improves material and apparatus that use in diagnostic and therapy
7   Provides quality insurance and radiation safety
8   Makes obtaining, archiving and transmitting of the medical images
9   Trains of physicist, residents, radiological technologists and /or other allied health professionals working in diagnostic radiology, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology
10   Educates of health professionals in diagnostic imaging physics and radiation effects
11   Makes group working interdisciplinary
12   Has a sufficient knowledge of the universal ethical and cultural values
13   Designs, plans and presents scientific research
14   Knows national and international official subjects and rules

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

At least 1 midterm an a final required, some courses might have project/homework. To pass the course grade must be at least 75/100.
