Course Objective

A course describing basics of imaging science, x-ray imaging modalities including basic principles, detectors, scattered radiation, digital roentgen equipment, portable roentgen equipment. However, In the Department of Radiology, to know dark rooms, film processing and printing the appropriate circumstances, physical environment working materials and the dark room conditions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to identify the power supply circuits are used for diagnosis and treatment equipment
2   Having knowledge to x rays for radiographic image
3   Able to determine image factors to obtain radiographic image
4   Able to identify conventional and digital radiography equipment
5   Able to perform acceptance tests, calibration and quality control tests of the conventional roentgen equipment
6   Able to perform image recording systems and quality assessment on the conventional radiography
7   Able to perform acceptance tests and quality control tests of the digital roentgen equipment
8   Ability to evaluate between dose and image quality in the conventional and digital roentgen equipment

1 Basic Concepts in radiology
2 Structure of the X ray instruments, transformers and x ray generator types Automatic exposure control in radiography
3 Structure and characteristics of the X ray tubes Cathode, anode, anode material in the X ray tubes
4 X-ray tube insert and housing, heating and cooling and heat loading, rating charts
5 X ray production, The spectrum of the X ray The parameters that affect the quality and quantity of X-rays
6 X-ray interactions (coherent scattering, Compton scattering, photoelectric effect, pair production) Formation of the latent image on the radiography Scattered radiation effects on radiographic quality Collimation and grid systems
7 Mid-term exam
8 Radiographic Parameters Affecting Image Quality ( tube voltage, tube current, exposure time, filtration, focal spot sizes, grid, etc. )
9 Film, screen,film radiography, screen characteristics (conversion efficiency, absorption efficiency, noise), film characteristics (graininess, sensitometric curve, speed, contrast/latitude, resolution), film processing, film processing quality control) Quality control study
10 The evaluation of the radiographic quality (magnification, distortion, contrast and spatial resolution etc.)
