DEGREE PROGRAMMES

: GEOPHYSICAL ENGINEERING

General Description

History

Geophysical Engineering Master's and Doctorate programs have been serving students at Bornova Campus between 1982 and 1999, and at Buca Tınaztepe Campus since 1999. Applied Geophysics I and II, Seismology I and II, Earthphysics I and II laboratories and Department's field equipment and seismic data processing laboratories are actively used within the scope of Master and Doctorate programs. Since Dokuz Eylul University, to which our department is affiliated, is located in one of the metropolitan cities of Turkey, our graduate students also benefit from the advantages of the metropolitan city, and this is one of the reasons why we are preferred.

Qualification Awarded

Ph.D. in Geophysical Engineering

Level of Qualification

Third Cycle (Doctorate Degree)

Specific Admission Requirements

Second Cycle Degree in the same or in related disciplines. Acceptable score on ALES (Academic Personnel and Graduate Education Entrance Exam) or Equivalent GRE, GMAT score. Acceptable score on Language Proficiency Tests. Acceptable weighted score based on the first or second cycle (with thesis) cumulative grade point average (GPA) and ALES score. However, ALES requirement is waived for the graduates of doctorate /arts proficiency/medical residency/ dental residency/ veterinary residency/ pharmaceutical residency programs as well as for the admissions to the graduate programs offered by the Conservatory and the departments of Fine Arts Faculty, where students are admitted only by the Artistic Aptitude Test. Final admission is based on the evaluation of the related academic unit committee. International student admission requirements are decided by the Graduate School Executive Committee.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

Students are admitted to the programs affiliated to the Graduate Schools, provided that they meet the transfer conditions determined by the Graduate Education and Training Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University, with the approval of the Department Head and the decision of the Graduate School Administrative Board. The application showing the course content and transcript, the advisor's suggestion, the opinion of the department chair and the institute, based on the student's petition about which courses he/she took while enrolled in another university's graduate program and were successful after enrolling in the same graduate program in September, should be counted from the minimum course load. determined by the decision of the board of directors. The courses taken by the students participating in the exchange programs from the host university can be accepted as optional or compulsory courses with the approval of the Graduate School Administrative Board.

Course Structure Diagram with Credits

In addition to the compulsory courses of the programme, students register to elective courses appropriate for their thesis topic, on the consent of their supervisor. If necessary, on the consent of their supervisor, they can also register to courses from other programmes (from DEU or other universities). It is obligatory to register MAT5101 Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) or MAT5141 Mathematical Mehods (3 0 0) or MAT5151 Methods of Applied Mathematics (3 0 0) with the approval of the supervisor. In the case of one of these courses taken during the M.Sc. education, these are not obligatory. The registration must be noticed to the Institute during course registration period by the supervisor.
