General Description

History

Department of Fundamentals of Nursing was established at 1999 as a department of Institute of Health Science by approval of The Council of Higher Education. Our academic personel are from Fundamentals of Nursing departments. Fundamentals of Nursing Msc programme started education at 2002. Program duration is 2 years (1 year is course, 1Year is thesis study) . Program language is Turkish.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

According to the Regulations of Dokuz Eylül University for Graduate Schools, students are not connected to the right for internal transfer, previously taken courses at another graduate programme by another university with a successful grade may be recognized by the related programmes after the letter of the students includes course contents and the transcript, and by the recommendation of the head of the departments and by the decision of the Board of Directors. The courses taken by the outgoing Exchange students have the recognition at the school either as compulsory or elective.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Second Cycle (Masters Degree) Programme with thesis is comprised of courses (at least 54 ECTS), a seminar (2 ECTS), and field study (4 ECTS) and thesis (60 ECTS) credits. In total 120 ECTS credits. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.

Profile of the Programme

Fundamentals of Nursing Msc programme started education at 2002. The objectives of this programme are obtaining knowledge about the four fundamental concepts of nursing, which are human, health, environment and nursing, and acquires the knowledge and skill of providing care based on psychomotor skill development theory and models, ethical principles, and the necessary knowledge, skill and attitude in order to determine, plan and practice nursing care necessities by using DLAM in case of health problems of individual/family and society, improving presentation skills, developing ability to follow, interpret and present domain-specific scientific research, acquiring knowledge and skills on basic research methods in Fundamentals of Nursing. Program contains 1 Compulsory Course each semester and elective courses in different neurosience fields. Students may take courses from different programs and university.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   In order to carry out the roles and functions of Nursing Fundamentals, to have, develop and deepen up-to-date professional knowledge based on graduate competencies.
2   To interpret different knowledge of different disciplines by integrating them with the knowledge of Nursing Fundamentals in order to create new knowledge.
3   To be able to use the professional, theoretical and applied knowledge acquired in the field of Nursing Fundamentals.
4   To interpret, analyse and synthesize different knowledge of different disciplines by integrating them with the knowledge of Nursing Fundamentals in order to create new knowledge.
5   To be able to transfer the up-to-date developments and her/ his own studies in the field of Nursing Fundamentals to the groups outside and inside her/his field orally, visually and in written.
6   To use the statistical software, to choose the correct statistical method, to make correct calculations and to interpret them correctly in the field of Nursing Fundamentals.
7   To solve the issues she/he determines, to assess the results and to practice in the field of Nursing Fundamentals.
8   To provide solutions for the issues she/he can encounter in the practices of Nursing Fundamentals
9   To conduct studies independently and as a group in the field of NF.
10   To conduct studies independently and as a group in the field of NF.
11   To publish a scientific article in a national journal or present it in a scientific assembly
12   To discuss and share her/ his own studies in the field of Nursing Fundamentals with the groups outside and inside her/his field orally, visually and in written
13   To examine the social relationships in the professional environment and the norms directing these relationships critically and to act to develop them.
14   To interpret the practice plans in the topics regarding NF in accordance with strategy and politics and to assess the results scientifically and ethically.
15   To know the importance of ethical principles and committees for the individual and the society and acts accordingly.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

Assessment of students was done with 2 midterm examination, 1 final examination, homework and project studies. Students must have minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50/4.00 and completed all the courses with at least CB / S / TP grades.
