General Description

History

Higher Economy and Trade School, on which contemporary Faculty of Economic and Administrative Sciences was founded upon, was established on September 9th, 1944. It was renamed as Economic and Commercial Sciences Academy on June 8th, 1959 by the by the Law No. 7334. It was included in Ege University as a faculty in 1968. With the establishment of Dokuz Eylül University by Decree Law No. 41 on the Organization of Higher Education Institutions, it was joined the establishment as Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences. Contemporarily, the Faculty consists of seven departments which are Business Administration, Economics, Public Finance, Labour Economics and Industrial Relations, Public Administration, Econometrics and Management Information Systems. All departments have both day and evening formal education programmes.
Department of Econometrics carries education and research activities on topics to analyze problems about economics and business administration using statistics and operations research, and to provide optimum decisions.

Qualification Awarded

The graduates, who have successfully completed all courses in the curriculum of Econometrics Programme, are awarded with the Bachelors Degree in Econometrics.

High school diploma, placement through a nation-wide Student Selection Examination.

Specific Arrangements for Recognition of Prior Learning (Formal, Non-Formal and Informal)

The rules and regulations for recognition of prior learning for Econometrics Programme are in conformance with general requirements of Dokuz Eylül University. These rules and regulations can be accessed through web page http://www.deu.edu.tr/ders-katalog/eng/eng-b7.html.

Qualification Requirements and Regulations

Students are required to successfully complete all courses of the programme (equivalent to 240 ECTS total) and obtain a minimum average grade point of 2.00 out of 4.00. In addition, conditions in the relevant articles of the second and fourth parts of the Associate and Bachelors Degree Education and Examination Regulations (http://www.deu.edu.tr/DEUWeb/Icerik/Icerik.php KOD=5683) should be met.

Profile of the Programme

Econometrics Undergraduate Program; It aims to increase students' research and problem-solving skills by providing education in statistics, econometrics and operations research, which are needed according to the developing world and country conditions. The main purpose of this program is; To educate students who can meet the developing needs of the public and private sectors day by day, who have the ability to research, analyze and solve problems, who can make scientific researches for the solution of economic and social problems and who can present these researches in an understandable way. The program offers graduates the opportunity to specialize in macro and micro economics, operations research, advanced statistics and information technologies, as well as econometric analysis. In the first two years, mostly general and common courses offered by various departments of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences are given. In the third and fourth years, there are department-specific courses. There is a wide pool of elective courses that department students can choose from in the fields they are interested in. There are optional Erasmus courses in English in the curriculum of the department. In addition, students can benefit from one or two semester exchange programs at various European universities within the scope of Farabi in Turkey and Erasmus Program abroad.

Key Learning Outcomes

1   Having basic theoretical knowledge on economy and administrative sciences.
2   Collecting, analyzing and interpreting data based on macro, micro and sector contexts.
3   Using an appropriate Turkish in both written and verbal statements on econometrics.
4   Using information technologies about econometrics, statistics and operations research.
5   Tracking information in econometrics also at this point, making conversation and discussing with native and foreigner colleagues.
6   Doing research in econometric subjects, using this information for maximum quality in research, reporting and presentation.
7   Having professional morality and responsibility.
8   Showing compatible attitude with team work and developing empathy, completing all duties and when necessary managing the team.
9   Being open minded and having self confidence while decision making during implementing new ideas.
10   Perceiving questions, having multi-directional thoughts and interpretation against events; being able to thinking flexible, taking risk and making fast decisions as an ability of analytical thinking.

Occupational Profiles of Graduates with Examples

Bachelors Diploma is given to the graduates from the department of econometrics. Graduates are expected to have the competence of analysis and synthesis on related areas of econometrics, statistics and operations research with the ability to easily follow and discuss about all kinds of economic literature.
Graduates are able to find jobs in both the public and private sectors. They can apply to the exams for various positions such as inspectorate, auditor, and assistant specialist declared by various ministries. Some institutions which require frequent data analysis and synthesis such as Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), the State Planning Organization (SPO), the Treasury, Banking Regulation and Supervision Agency (BRSA), and the Central Bank prefer Econometrist. Also various public and private institutions which are active in areas such as insurance, banking, and capital markets employ graduates. They can be employed in the planning, budget, and research and development departments of companies. They also can undertake academic careers by pursuing postgraduate degrees.

Access to Further Studies

The graduates who completed undergraduate programmes requirements successfully can register to second and third cycle pogrammes (masters and doctorate) of national and international higher education institutions if they can meet the related requirements.

Examination Regulations, Assessment and Grading

The assessment and evaluation methods applied for each course are defined in the course introduction forms prepared by the relevant faculty member(s) and included in the Information Package. Regarding exams and course grades, the relevant articles of Dokuz Eylül University, Associate Degree and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations and Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Teaching and Exam Application Principles are applied.

Graduation Requirements

Graduation requirements are as described in the Qualification Requirements and Rules section. Successfully completing all the courses available in the program (for a total of 240 ECTS) and having a weighted grade point average of at least 2.00 out of 4.00 are the qualification requirements for graduation. In addition, the conditions in the relevant articles of the second and fourth parts of the Associate and Undergraduate Education and Examination Regulations must also be met.
