Course Objective

This course covers a broad overview of mechanisms for transcriptional regulation. It covers basic mechanisms of transcriptional regulation in prokaryotes, eukaryotes, and transcriptional regulation through chromatin.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand the basic transcriptional machinery
2   Understand the basic rules of transcriptional regulation, including how transcriptional activators function.
3   Understand how cis-elements, such as promoters and enhancers, function.
4   Understand how chromatin structure is regulated for transcriptional control.
5   Learn examples of transcriptional regulation during development and disease
