Course Objective

Introducing the light microscopy and parts.
Teaching the use of the microscope, tissue processing and histological techniques.
Teaching and showing the epithelial, connective, cartilage, bone, blood, muscle and nerve tissue of the cells by light microscopy.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Knows the parts of light microscope, and histological tissue and using a microscope.
2   Recognize the types of epithelial tissue and cells under a microscope
3   Recognize the types of connective tissue and cells under a microscope
4   Recognize the types of cartilage tissue and cells under a microscope
5   Recognize the types of bone tissue and cells under a microscope.
6   Recognize the types of blood tissue and cells under a microscope
7   Recognize the types of muscle tissue and cells under a microscope
8   Recognize the types of nerve tissue and cells under a microscope.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Methods used to study histology. Overview on studying light microscope. Epithelial Tissue: Simple cuboid and squamosus epithelia in urether
2 Glandular epithelia, exocrine and endocrine glands: salivary gland and pancreas
3 Loose connective and adipose tissue in urinary bladder. Dense-irregular connective tissue in frog skin, dense-regular connective tissue in tendon
4 Examination of cartilage tissue, hyaline, elastic and fibrose cartilage tissues with light microscope
5 Examination of bone tissue, Haversian systems with light microscope
6 Examination of bone cells, ostocyte, osteoblast, osteoclast with light microscope
7 Examination of muscle tissue, smooth muscle, skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle with light microscope
8 Midterm
9 Microscopic examination of mammalian and amphibian blood tissue samples
10 Microscopic examination of central nervous system tissue samples.
11 Microscopic examination of peripheral nervous system tissue samples
12 Cardiovascular system, the arteries.
13 Respiratory system, the lung
14 Urinary system, the kidney
