Course Objective

The aim of this course is to let the students react with the convenient spoken French language to the concrete situations and events that they meet during the working life; to realize written and simple spoken language and to understand what is read and heard.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to understand and use the simple phrases and frequently used expressions in daily and working life.
2   To understand what it heard: To be able to catch and report the actual professional dialogues.
3   To be able to understand what is read: To be able to analyse and report professional short writings, advertisements, published materials like letters.
4   Spoken expression: To be able to introduce oneself, to be able to describe the surroundings, the objects around him/herself, to be able to roughly tell about his/her work and hobbies, places, an event.
5   Writing: To be able to write a note, message, personal letter.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Acquaintance. To introduce himself and others, Jobs, Alphabet. Présent tense verbs, irregulsr and regular verbs (etre, avoir, venir, naitre, s appeler). Pronouns.
2 Countries, Languages. Présent tense verbs (parler, lire, chanter, travailler, apprendre) Basic Structure of the Phrase: Question and Expressive Phrase. Question Words (Qui, Qu est-ce que/ Est-ce que/ Ou/ D ou). Prepositional phrases(a/de).
3 At the Work. Dialogue with Collegues. To tell about the objects at the Office. Singular and plural forms of nouns. Feminin-Masculin nouns: Le La -Les
4 Numbers (1-100). Asking Price(Combien ) Days of the Week.
5 People and Hobbies. Talking about Leisure Activities. Negative (ne/n pas)
6 At the University. Verb : pouvoir . Adjectives: un/une+Adj+nom . Ne que . Possessive pronouns.
7 Midterm Exam

9 Prepositions: a, de, dans, sur, a coté de, au dessus de, en dessous de,... Repetition of the subjects.
10 At the Hotel.To book a room, check-in.
11 Talk about the problems at the hotel room. Nouns and adjectives.
12 Orientation in a city. To get information about a museum(to ask the opening hours, the entrance fee) Talk about the time: a heure, dans min, de a, depuis, jusqu a .
13 Eating and drinking. Breakfast at the Hotel: To order food and beverage.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

1. Midterm Exam: Midterm exam encompasses the subjects covered in lectures as well as weekly assignments (40%).
2. Final Exam: The exam encompasses all the subjects covered throughout the semester, as well as in-class discussions, applications and case studies (60%).

Assessment Criteria

Exam papers will be evaluated regarding the level of understanding, as well as defining the causality between the basic concepts and issues of the lecture, ability of giving examples and analytical thought, and using relevant terminology.
