Course Objective

In this course, it is aimed to provide students with comprehensive information about various sociological analyzes and discussions developed on the position and functions of religion as a sociological institution, its relationship with other sociological institutions, and the new forms of social change arising from these contacts.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To understands that religion is a sociological institution.
2   The social dimension of religion and its position after changing conditions explain its functions.
3   To have knowledge about the characteristics of groups born from religion within a wide socio-cultural structure.
4   While making causal explanations about the direction and effects of social change, he/she comments on the positioning of religion in these processes.
5   To learn the dimensions of the relationship of religion with other sociological institutions (family, education, politics, economy).
6   To have a broad knowledge about the literature, which includes the approach of the discipline of sociology to belief.
