Course Objective

The aim of the course is to introduce the learners to the concept of democracy, democratization and democratic consolidation and the factors that have an impact on democratic consolidation.

Assessment Methods

35 percent of the term project (term paper) is divided as follows:
5 percent for the proposal
15 percent for the presentation
15 percent for the written paper

Assessment Criteria

1. Demonstrate understanding of the concepts of democracy, democratization and democratic consolidation.
2. Evaluate the reasons why some countries can consolidate their democracies while the others cannot.
3. Work individually or as a group in analyzing the factors that promote/hinder democratic consolidation of a country.
4. Demonstrate high analytical and communication skills in writing and in presenting a report.
5. Acquire skills to use library and internet resources independently.

1. 70 percent of attendance is compulsory
2. Plagiarism of any type will result in disciplinary action.
3. Participation to class discussion and group working is compulsory
