Course Objective

The objective of this course is to provide an understanding the key charecteristics and role of emerging market economies in the world economy emphasizing the emerging market country groups (such as, BRICS, NIC, CEEC, N-11, E-7,...) and regions. This class gives students an ability to produce a country-based study using economic and social data for each country. Moreover, emerging market economies crisis will be analyzed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The learner will be able to differentiate major characteristics and concepts of the emerging market economies for the purpose of understanding the role of these countries in the world economy.
2   The learner will describe the types and models of financial crises for evaluating and coping with emerging market crises.
3   The learner will be able to design a country-based research study to compare various aspects and problems of emerging market economies.
4   The learner will be able to acquire the recent economic and financial news on emerging markets by following the periodicals and journals to have a better understanding on a success or possible financial crisis in any of these emerging market economies .
