Course Objective

This course will enable students to understand main genetic principles and their applications in translational medicine.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   to know cell division (mitosis, meiosis) and gametogenesis
2   to know principles of Mendelian genetics and phenotype-genotype relationship
3   to know Mendelian and non-Mendelian inheritance patterns, and comments on pedigrees
4   to know mutation types
5   to describe genotype-phenotype relationship and inheritance mechanism of a single gene disorder
6   to describe genotype-phenotype relationship and inheritance mechanism of a single gene disorder
7   to know basic genetic mechanism of carsinogenesis
8   to know basic principles of population genetics and evolution

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Lectures: Basic theoretical concepts will be explained during lectures
Homework: Students will solve to problem based questions about the previous lecture that are given by the course coordinator, and shall be submitted in writing.
Homework Assignments/Presentation: Each student prepare a presentation as his/her choice for a single gene disease.
