Course Objective

Completly evaluation of studies about Anatolia and Rumeli dialects.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understands importance of specifing detailed properties of dialects in the basis of languages vocabulary.
2   Understands the contribution of redounding common words in dialects to standart language.
3   Understands the contributions of words in dialects to the literary language.
4   Gains the ability of comparing linguistic properties of dialects in different regions of Turkey
5   Learns relations between Turkish and other Turkic languages.
6   Learns contribtion of vocabulary of Turkey dialects to scientific language.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Defination of dialect as a term, ıts relation to language, lehçe şive and acent.
2 Dialect and wrting language relation, dialect s relation with historical periods, reasons similitary and difference of dialects
3 Method problems in dialect studies.
4 Researches about categorization of Anatolian dialects, criterias that turkish scholars used for categorization of dialects, and categorizations made base of this criterias
5 Elements that effected formation of Anatolian dialects, first researches done about Anatolian dialects, foreign scholars period (1867-1940), and Turkish scholars period (Ahmet Caferoğlu dönemi 1940-1950)
6 Studies of dialect text collecting and analyzing from Ahmet Caferoğlu to today.
7 Midterm exams.
8 Comparement between Prof.Dr. Ahmet Caferoğlu s studies and today s studies.
9 Methods in dialect researches, preparations before going to area work, and key parts of area work.
10 Usage of contex vocabularies and index in dialect researches.
11 Differences of transcription in Turkey Turkish researches.
12 Specification speaking sounds in dialect studies with fonetical analyzing method.
13 Turning dialect materials into text, Marks of dialect text, marking dialect texts.
14 Learns contribtion of vocabulary of Turkey dialects to scientific language.
