Course Objective

Punishment is one of the important parameters in understanding the validity of social norms. The sociology of punishment course explains the basic aspects of punishment in a comparative and historical perspective. Socially, penal institutions allow the testing of social theory. As a technical field that includes criminal sociology, crime prevention and control institutions, it provides basic information to those who want to work in this field.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Understand the structure of the criminal justice system and the development of the institutions on which it is founded.
2   Recognise the criminological importance of discrimination in shaping our understandings of crime and punishment.
3   Identify and make use of different sources of media and other empirical data on crime and victimisation, and assess its usefulness for understanding the nature and extent of crime in society.
4   Kriminolojik teorinin değerini ve pratik ceza adaleti meseleleri içinde nasıl uygulandığını ve bunları eleştirmek için nasıl kullanıldığını anlamak.
5   Suç ve mağduriyetle ilgili farklı kaynaklar hakkında farkındalık gösterin ve toplumdaki suçun boyutunu anlamak için yararlılıklarını değerlendirebilme.
