Course Objective

Changes which occur in the brain during sleep, anesthesia and coma in the clinical setting. Assessment techniques used in sleep and other consciousness states, old and new methods.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   The concept of consciousness and its definitions.
2   Distinction between consciousness and memory and its evaluation based on accompanying emotional state.
3   To learn the concepts of mind and qualia
4   To have knowledge on different states of consciousness (sleep, seizure, twilight zone , coma) and their methods of assessment
5   To have knowledge on methods of clinical examination.
