Course Objective

The course aims to give the participants the definition of R&D, information on its historical background, types, technological innovation, approaches to R&D in Turkey and other countries, providing a thorough discussion on different models, presenting strategic approaches to R&D and innovation, planning, giving a solid introduction to projects as the basis of R&D, project management and the expected outputs of R&D.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to define R&D and distinguish non-R&D activities.
2   Being able to define R&D support mechanisms,related public institutions and other actors in Turkey.
3   Achieving stategic approaches and planning processes in R&D and innovation.
4   To be able and capable of realization of the key components of R&D projects, designing and R&D project and implementing the important steps in project management.
5   Applying the project planning, developement and coordination skills in various areas.

1 The definition and historical background of R&D.
2 Definition and types of technology, technological innovation.
3 The scientific basis of technology.
4 The biotechnology industry as a case study.
5 The approaches of public institutions and private sectors towards R&D in Turkey.
6 The approaches of public institutions and private sectors towards R&D in the world: Alternative models.
7 Strategic approaches to R&D and innovation (Midterm exam will also be held this week after course hour).
8 Planning in R&D and innovation.
9 Project based research and project management in R&D.
10 Organization and team work in R&D.
11 R&D management.
12 Creativity in R&D.
13 Coordination in R&D.
14 Predicted outcomes in R&D.
