Course Objective

This course aims to help students to enhance their vocabulary storage in the field of physical education and sports sciences; to help them understand the publications in their field and to give information on reading comprehension and translation techniques.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to have a general understanding on the basic sentence structures in English
2   To be able to comprehend and translate sentences having different structures into Turkish
3   To be able to enhance the terminology in the field of sports sciences
4   To be able to read and understand texts written in the field of sports sciences
5   To be able to translate the English texts written in the field of sports sciences into Turkish

Course Contents

1 An overview on the basic sentence structures of English and the translations of sample sentences and short texts into Turkish (English tenses)
2 An overview on the basic sentence structures of English and the translations of sample sentences and short texts into Turkish (conjunctions, sentence connectors, linkers)
3 An overview on the basic sentence structures of English and the translations of sample sentences and short texts into Turkish (relative clauses, noun clauses, adverb clauses)
4 An overview on the basic sentence structures of English and the translations of sample sentences and short texts into Turkish (conditionals, passive voice)
5 Most frequently used sportive terms; translating sentences having these terms
6 Translation of texts related to exercise and children, women and the elderly.
7 Translation of texts related to the athletes health and nutrition
8 Translation of texts related to strength and resistance training
9 Translation of texts related to strength and resistance training
10 Translation of texts related to endurance training
11 Translation of texts related to team games such as football, basketball, volleyball and handball
12 Translation of texts related to team games such as football, basketball, volleyball and handball

Lecturing, whole class and small group discussions, using audio-visual materials, question-answer sessions, cooperative learning, student presentations (some lessons will be practical and whole class participation will be involved).

Those who violate the lesson will be required to leave the class.
Mobile phones are not allowed during the class hours.
Coming to the class on time is vitally important. All students are required to consider punctuality.
Illegal actions during the lessons and exams will not be forgiven; those who insist on doing these actions will be sent to the discipline committee.
