Course Objective

Drilling in a field in the area to provide 3-dimensional perception. As for drilling, to determine in advance the problems that may arise from soil-rock formations.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Define the geological formation planes on the map.
2   Define relationship between tectonic structure and formation on the map
3   Sort by using the relative positions of the formations that cut cut relationship
4   Using drilling data to determine floor and ceiling planes of geological formation.
5   To perceive of drilling area as three-dimensional.

Course Contents

Week Subject Description
1 Point, line and plane in space, defining.
2 Definitions of the geology of the underground.
3 Intersections of planes.
4 Planes which have different direction and dip, intersections with topography (morphology)
5 Formation thickness and drilling problems.
6 Intersections with each other of the formation and faults which have same direction. (Normal fault)
7 Intersections with each other of the formation and faults which have same direction. (Reverse fault)
8 Intersections with each other of the formation and faults which have different direction. (normal fault)
9 Midterm exam
10 Intersections with each other of the formation and faults which have different direction. (Reverse fault)
11 Drilling problems
12 Contour maps, maps of the floor and ceiling formations
13 Isopach maps (aquifer, mine)

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

The course of theoretical lectures and classes will be in the form of implementationissues on topographic maps. Each sample solutions and applications related to the subject will be enough. Evaluation environment will be created in the form of questions and answers with students. Examples of issues to get through a debate on thesağlanılacaktır comprehension.
