Course Objective

To teach diseases , pests and weeds which are problems in cultivated plants and to give general information about their damage symptoms and control measurements.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   Being able to categorize harmful and benefical species in plant protection.
2   Being able to understand biotic and abiotic factors which are problems in plants and their control measurements.
3   Being able to put forward basic problems in farming of cultivated plants.
4   Being able to apply information of plant protection.
5   Being able to search actual information about plant protection practises.

1 Importance of plant protection, concept of disease in plants and disease phases
2 Symptoms of plant diseases, morphological characteristics of the fungal plant diseases
3 Biology and control of plant fungal diseases
4 Biology and control of plant bacterial diseases
5 Biology and control of plant viral diseases
6 Organisms of animal origin that have problems in agriculture and their general characteristics and forms of damage, biodiversity
7 Mid-Term Exam
8 Mid-Term Exam
9 Morphological and anatomical characteristics of arthropods that are harmful in agriculture and its propagation and growth
10 Classification of Insects: Insect orders and general characteristics
11 Interaction of pest and environment, its population dynamics;interaction betweenf host plants and pests
12 Characteristics of weeds, its damag and control
13 Strategies of plant protection against plant pests; screening and sampling, estimating of harmful and useful populations;decide of agricultural control
14 Cultural methods against pests, biological and physical control
