Course Objective

1. How students can make arrangements for different textile branches on the computer considering all processes (repeatable textile design, separation of the halftone, trimming) before printing.
2. How students can transform the digital visuals to a product in accordance with the textile printing techniques (silk, rotation, digital) and teaching students the relation between the production and design.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To be able to make designs for the different textile branches by using the software Adobe Photoshop on the computer.
2   Considering all paints (pigment, reactive), printing machines (rotation, filmdruck) and templates that are used in printing, to be able to arrange semitone spots and CMYK hue separation files
3   By using the semitone and CMYK hue separation, different spots, angle, resolution values, to be able to make textile tram and printing applications
4   Considering the effects of priority printing colour to the printing results, being able to set up colour round in the production process for printing
5   To be able to analyze the textile designs for printing (how many colours will be used, textile tram, choosing the templates) and make a decision on what kind of printing silk, scraper, fabric etc. are the most suitable for the printing.

1 Description of the semitone hue separation, theoretical lesson on the relation between industrial textile printing machines and semitone hue separation and making the computer aided semitone applications
2 Semitone hue separation techniques, (spot, CMYK) and semitone colour applications on the computer
3 Description of textile tram and tram types, theoretical lesson on the relation between industrial textile printing machines and tram and making applications on the computer
4 Theoretical lesson on tram, angle, resolution and moiré and applications on the computer
5 Colour models, relation of grey tone and tram, their equals for printing and applications on the computer
6 Computer aided design practices
7 Computer aided design practices
8 Computer aided design practices
9 Evaluation of the designs, making the semitone spot and CMYK separation of the chosen design
10 Making a decision on the shape of tram (square, circle, line etc.)
11 Practices on the semitone spot printing in the textile printing workroom
12 Practices on the CMYK printing in the textile printing room
13 Practices on the variants and analyzing the effect of prior printing colour to the printing results in the textile workroom

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

1. Lessons
The teaching assistant introduces the software Adobe Photoshop and practically teaches the aesthetical and technical levels (textile tram, separation of the colour semitones) of the textile design by using the visual and written sources.

2. Applications
Students make textile designs for mass production on a specific theme of a project considering the physical conditions of the printed items and the methods of printing style and a chosen design s pre-printing levels are applied on the computer.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

Performance evaluation of the students will be according to ability of using software, carrying out pre-printing phases on the computer, making mass production designs fit for the purpose and make them suitable for producing and according to printing, design, aesthetic, technical success.

Assessment Criteria

Credits that will be achieved from student s participation: 1 credit can be achieved from participation to the lessons, 2 credits from the quality of the answers given by student to the questions asked by teaching assistant and their performance in the class, 3 credits for the contribution from the student to create a positive atmosphere in the class.

Course Policies and Rules

1. Taking part in the 80% of the lessons is compulsory.
2. All kind of plagiarization or attempting to it end up with disciplinary punishment.
3. Not participating in the lesson and late delivery of the projects will be not considered as an excuse.
4. One letter grade will be removed per day for each late project delivery.
