Course Objective

The course aims to focus on issues of design thinking, problem definition, material, geometry, intangible qualities and ergonomics for improving design and presentation skills. The idea is to get the students to experience the realities of the design process by making them use basic materials to realise simple designs.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   As an out come of this course the student is expected to show improvements in the following: Ability to use design preparetion methods
2   Abilits to realize creative ideas
3   Have control of the situations and process in design
4   Create unique approaches from the beginning of the design process through divergent thinking
5   Being informed on the levels of application in design and gain experience to realize them
6   Having information on all steps, their order and necessity within the design process from conceptualization to prototype
7   Ability to present their designs

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

Within the course flow,
Students are provided an environment to discuss design evolution on samples from history and requested to propose alternatives. The daily objects are expected to be decoded from evolution point of view and then reconstucted as contemporary designs taking into account the function, form, user experience frame work of today.

Course flow is adjusted in real time. Since there is no suggested reference, individual participation is required to attain the advantages of sharing case study experience and class discussion is important to realize the course content which is composed a variety of aspects in addition to transferring information. Students are encouraged to question, discuss, comment, criticize subjects to improve their communication skills in addition to gain self trust so as to be able to construct and put forward unique approaches and ideas.
