Course Objective

The aim of this course is to research manuscript libraries in the country and abroad by giving information about the research techniques and physical solutions of the manuscript; to determine the manuscript programs in libraries; to fix the manuscripts according to their subjects; to have catalogue and collection knowledge; and also to compose an archive with the information gained.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   be informed of historical knowledge of the periodic features of manuscripts,
2   know the catalogues and collections of manuscripts in domestic and foreign libraries,
3   be informed of manuscript libraries in domestic and foreign libraries, determining the digital atmosphere and programs of libraries,
4   develop the fixed manuscript library programs and present new projects,
5   present the gained knowledge in scientific and artistic atmosphere.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

After giving information about the main resources, the students are asked to determine the samples of manuscripts belonging to different periods in various libraries and museums. They are also asked to make a presentation in the lesson to interpret and compare the knowledge they have gained and to know the research methods. They will realize an original hardcover on sketch paper by making use of the hardcovers that they determine as homework.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The students will gain the knowledge of the cataloguing of manuscripts in various museums and libraries and collections, which will be primary point to evaluate their studies.

Assessment Criteria

Mid-term, final, presentation and project will be evaluated out of 100, as will their averages. 80 % attendance is compulsory.

After the students are instructed with the theoretical knowledge, both orally and written, applications will be performed one to one. They are informed about the following lessons and expected to do pre-study.
