Course Objective

The aim of this course is have the students comprehend the development and evolution phases of Turkish carpets throughout history, and have them gain knowledge to comment on this field.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   be informed of the Pazırık carpets and their findings,
2   present the researches they have made on 13th century Seljuk period carpet art, and analyse the samples,
3   present the researches they have made on 15th century Beylikler period carpet art, and analyse the samples,
4   present the researches they have made on 16th century Ottoman period carpet art, and analyse the samples,
5   report the evolution of 19th century Turkish carpets and commercial affairs in Anatolia,
6   make out a systematic at proficiency level while researching local carpets.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course the students will be able to learn Turkish carpets by examining them throughout history and have knowledge at academic level in this field. For this reason, the subjects to be researched will be given to the students every week and they will be asked to be ready for the next lesson. The lesson will be in a discussion atmosphere.

The pass grade will be determined by evaluating the grades of mid-term, final and the assignment.

Assessment Criteria

The research portfolio, mid-term and the final exams will be evaluated out of 100. 20 % of the research portfolio, 20% of the mid-term and 60% of the final exam will determine the pass grade.

Course Policies and Rules

70% attendance is compulsory.
Before the term ends, in the last 15 days, the list showing the students attendance will be announced on the billboards and on the web, the students who fail due to absenteeism will not be admitted to the final exam.
The students will be accepted absent, except mid-term and final exam days, in the event of sick report.
