Course Objective

The aim of this course is to inform the students theoretically about preparing a project by making field research in documentation and restitution in the conservation study of tiles and ceramics which are of archaeological or architecture quality, by keeping their cultural values. Besides, photography, drawings on damage assessment plans, preserving, related rules, preserving consciousness and ethical issues will be instructed.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   make documentation by having ethical conscious in preserving tiles and ceramics which have historical value and which are on architectural surfaces or archaeological object,
2   have technical knowledge and equipment to do preservation study for historical tiles and ceramics which are used as surface ornamentation or objects in architectural buildings,
3   use technological resources related to their field in documentation stages of historical tiles ( drawing, photograph etc.)
4   in documentation stage of historical tiles and ceramics, be informed of theoretical and practical subjects belonging to the disciplines related to their field,
5   - in documentation stage of historical tiles and ceramics, have the ability to use the techniques used for the disciplines related to their field,
6   present the project-study effectively

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, both theoretical and practical, the definitions of documentation of tile and ceramics will be repeated, and then a sample, worth preserving and having historical value, will be selected from tiles and ceramics forms, and a research and a restitution study ( photo, damage assessment ) will be done.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

It is planned to give the students a mid-term exam and a final exam including the subjects of the research and documentation study done by the students in application part and the subjects of the notes studied in the lesson theoretically, because this course is both theoretical and practical. The students will present the documentation study of tiles and ceramics done with computer-aided drawings in application study of the project in a portfolio.

Assessment Criteria

Before the exams, the students will be informed about the value of the questions to be asked, and according to the answers the total grade will be determined.
Project evaluation, assignment presentation and attendance will also be evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming to class late will be accepted into the class but are considered to attend half class period. All attendance will be scored as mentioned above. At the end of each course, the next lesson s subject is given to the students as study and research subject. Each lesson starts after discussing the study and research subject before teaching it.
