Course Objective

The aim of this course is to teach students the related resources and the techniques of definition and application of pattern design principles in Turkish art of Illumination with use of academic discipline and examination process.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   To define academic discipline and examination process in Turkish art of illumination and make connection with related disciplines.
2   To systematize the principles and application methods of pattern drawing in Turkish art of illumination
3   To use pattern drawing principlpeles and analyze them with examples.
4   To compare the the pattern drawing principles in turkish art of illumination with other disciplines and analyze the data.
5   To present examples which show their skills and competence in their profession, by using pattern drawing principles of Turkish art of illumination.

5 Methodological description of analysis methods in design phase with examples
6 Comparison of different pattern drawing principles accompanied with different discipline rules in illumination design
7 Gathering data for unique design phases, project works
8 Determining style for unique design
9 Determining methods of unique design, explanation of reasons for these preferences
10 Determining technique for unique design
11 The evaluation of style-interpretation interaction in unique design process
12 The evaluation of pattern-dimension interaction in unique design process
13 The evaluation of large and small; technique- color interaction in unique design process.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, the Turkish art of Illumination terminology, historical development, features, calligraphy types and the connection with book arts and other related disciplines will be explained with examples. Design principles, features, similarities and differences in other disciplines will be discussed and resources, collection editions about art of illumination and design will be introduced and be evaluated.

Further Notes About Assessment Methods

The course has 2 credits for theoretical knowledge and 2 credits for applications. There will be both midterm and final exam to evaluate students. In the exams, the degree of comprehension and understanding of the subjects in given course books and also the degree of skills in applications will be evaluated. A homework and a presentation which are prepared with the systematic of the comprehended course will be expected from students

Assessment Criteria

In order to number of questions in the exams, the mark distributions out of 100 points will be announced before the exams and the total result will be evaluated. The project, homework presentation and attendance will be evaluated out of 100 points in the context of accuracy, orderliness and particularity.

Course Policies and Rules

The course begins with theoretical description, drawing with the help of visuals and personal applications about related subjects. . At the end of the classes, the subject of next class is announced to students as research subject. At the beginning of the next class, stages of the works are examined, mistakes are criticized and discussed; then the students begin their new application in studios.
