Course Objective

The aim is to teach the students The Ottoman Arts and Contemporary interpretations in the illumination art, techniques, motifs and compositions.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Research the Ottoman Arts which have become the centres of the illumination in history, their effects and importance
2   2. Identify the importance of Illumination arts history and new designs
3   3. Analyze characteristic features of art contemporary arts their effects and the designs
4   4. Identify the Contemporary Decorations, its features and interpretations in illumination design
5   5. By making use of the related motif features, making new interpretations illumination designs and presenting them in a project.

3 The art centres that have affected Turkish Illumination Art, their features and comparison Assessing the project and presenting it

5 The kinds of celi writing panels in illumination
6 The form-shape features in calligraphy panel illumination
7 The composition feature in calligraphy writing panel and motif analysis

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, we will analyze the characteristic features of Ottoman Arts, which have become art centres in the history of Illumination, and also examine the artefacts and printed or digitally recorded samples. After introducing the features of these schools, the disciplines they have affected or been affected and samples related to these, we will indicate design analysis belonging to these styles on the sketches step by step. We will also teach the kinds of design drawing, its method and technique in workshops. The students are expected to draw original designs and contemporary interpretations using one or more general design principles, techniques and methods. They can also make use of computer technology to prepare designs and drawings. The students will be evaluated according to their using skills in their assignments and projects.

Assessment Criteria

Exams will be evaluated out of 100. This grade will be determined according to the number of the questions to be asked in the exams. And also, the project, the assignment presentation and the attendance will be evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming to class late will be accepted into the class but are considered to attend half class period. All attendance will be scored as mentioned above. At the end of each course, the next lesson s subject is given to the students as study and research subject. Each lesson starts after discussing the study and research subject before teaching it.
