Course Objective

The aim is to teach the students how to make original illumination designs having different style features by using the knowledge, practice and education they have learnt about Illumination Art.

Learning Outcomes of the Course Unit

1   1. Have the knowledge to be able to compare samples belonging to important cults in Turkish Illumination Art
2   2. Synthesize the Turkish Illumination styles by using today s features; solve the problems that may occur during the production; and, produce new designs,
3   3. Use computer technologies in making designs ; plan the designs using the knowledge related to cults,
4   4. Use the knowledge from different disciplines in making schematic and artistic connections and in making designs,
5   5.Use the brush and shading techniques for drawing motifs used in various areas of Turkish Illumination, and apply the knowledge they have got in their projects.

Planned Learning Activities and Teaching Methods

In this course, it is aimed to make original designs by synthesizing different styles in the Turkish Illumination Art. The designs will be made by going through the phases of charcoal sketch, colouring and painting works. The students will first make researches about the designs they are going to make, and then make a presentation about the samples done before. They can make use of computer technology for their assignments, designs, drawings and presentations. The students will be evaluated according to their using skills in their assignments and projects.

Assessment Criteria

Exams will be evaluated out of 100. This grade will be determined according to the number of the questions to be asked in the exams. And also, the project, the assignment presentation and the attendance will be evaluated out of 100.

Course Policies and Rules

The students coming to class late will be accepted into the class but are considered to attend half class period. All attendance will be scored as mentioned above. At the end of each course, the next lesson s subject is given to the students as study and research subject. Each lesson starts after discussing the study and research subject before teaching it.
